A Day in the Life of a Commercial Director | Meet Laura

3 min read

Meet Laura, the Commercial Director at Good Travel Management. Her role is dynamic, encompassing the leadership of sales and account management teams to drive commercial success. Laura is responsible for retaining and growing the existing customer base while also acquiring new ones. Today, we step into her world and get a glimpse of a typical day in her professional life.

5:30 AM – An Early Start

My day starts anywhere from 5:30 to 6 AM when I’m greeted by my son, Dylan. The morning is a whirlwind of activity, featuring the chaos of breakfast, a quick outfit change into something presentable, and a crucial email and calendar check to prepare for my day ahead.

7:00 AM – Hitting the Road

By 7 AM, I’m out the door and on the road, driving from Derby to Hessle. To tune my brain into high-performance mode, I indulge in my favourite podcasts. My current top picks include ‘Diary of a CEO,’ ‘The High-Performance Podcast,’ ‘Happy Place,’ and ‘How to Fail,’ among others. These podcasts provide me with insights, motivation, and a dose of inspiration for the day ahead.

8:30 AM – Arrival and Catch-Ups

Once I arrive at the office, my first mission is to persuade a friendly colleague to brew me a steaming cup of tea or coffee. Caffeinated and ready to go, I launch into catch-up conversations with my team. These morning interactions are invaluable for staying in the loop, sharing updates, and ensuring that the flow of information is seamless and efficient.

9:00 AM – A Day of work, work, work

As a hybrid worker, I don’t spend every day in the office, so when I am present, I dedicate my hours to face-to-face meetings, coaching sessions, and leading my team to success. Good Travel Management follows a 9-step customer engagement process, and my ambition is to optimise and streamline this process, making it as effective and commercially successful as possible.

12:00 PM – Lunchtime Reset

Midday marks a well-deserved break. I make it a point to step away from my desk, ensuring I take a moment to reset, recharge, and regroup. This lunch hour is crucial to maintaining productivity and mental clarity throughout the busy workday.

5:00 – 6:30 PM – The Journey Home

Between 5:00 and 6:30 PM, I’m on the road again, heading back home. This time, however, the journey is different. I’m often on calls with colleagues, family, and friends, ensuring I stay connected and maximise my time on the move. It’s a juggling act, but in today’s world, staying connected is more important than ever.

7:00 PM – Family Time

Finally, at around 7 PM, I arrive home. This is the moment I’ve been looking forward to all day – family time. It’s time for baby bath time. These moments are filled with joy, laughter, and bonding. They provide the perfect balance to my demanding workday, and I cherish every second of it.
